Can I grow Pearl's Premium in the Deep South?
Q: Your grass sounds great, but I am in the blazing hot deep south, if I don’t mind a little extra work up front, is there any way I can grow Pearl’s Premium grass seed down here?
A: Some people have had success with it in the deep south…by planting in the fall as soon as soil temperfatures came down to 70 degrees F., to get the roots as deep as possible before summer heat and then they watered it deeply with an inch of water once or twice a week in the warmer months, watering at dawn. In southern climate aeration and top spreading 1/4 inch of organic compost is essential to help aerate the soil to achieve the deepest roots.
